Located at the heart of Chongqing’s expanding transport network, Chongqing East Railway Station is a key national gateway designed to serve millions of passengers annually. As a cornerstone of China’s “multi-modal” transportation strategy that places high demands on energy reliability, efficiency, and sustainability, the station required an integrated energy system to deliver low-carbon, high-performance operations.
Sino-Singapore Energy Services (SSES), SP Group’s joint venture with Chongqing Gas Group, was tasked to be the integrated energy system operator for Chongqing East Railway Station, tapping our combined expertise in specialised, energy-efficient solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects. SSES was engaged from the early planning and construction stages to provide technical design expertise and financial feasibility studies for the integrated system.
The integrated energy system spans 360,000 square metres and features a trigeneration setup – combining natural gas-powered electricity generation with high-efficiency chillers to provide cooling, heating and electricity. With a capacity of nearly 14,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT), the system is expected to reduce energy consumption by 15 per cent and cut carbon emissions by approximately 9,400 tonnes per year, compared to conventional systems.
