SP Group unveils first building integrated photovoltaic project in China

16 October 2023, China - SP Group (SP) has announced the successful completion and subsequent grid integration of its first Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) project in Guangdong, China. The 4 megawatt-peak (MWp) BIPV project at Guangdong Lingxiao Pump Industry Co. Ltd (Guangdong Lingxiao), a global leader in water pumping solutions, demonstrates how it can enable energy-intensive commercial and industrial users to improve energy efficiency and save cost.

Situated at Guangdong Lingxiao’s new manufacturing plant in Yangchun City, the BIPV project is based on a “surplus-to-grid” model and is expected to generate a total of 110 million kWh of clean power over 25 years, or an average of 4.36 million kWh annually. Compared to traditional coal-fired power generation, the project is expected to help the plant avoid approximately 1,600 tons of coal and total carbon emissions by nearly 4,500 tons each year.

Spanning an area of 17,000m2, the project comprises of a high tech, integrated 4MWp distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) carport system that is weather resistant. This enables optimisation of the rooftop space to provide a sheltered carpark for up to 400 cars. The BPIV project also extends the rooftop’s total lifecycle with the deployment of state-of-the-art thermal insulation technology and its wind- and rain-resistant design against adverse weather conditions. Other benefits of the BIPV deployment includes enhanced aesthetical value, reduction in structural load and reduction in building materials required.

“As an energy-intensive manufacturing firm, Guangdong Lingxiao looks forward to collaborating with a leading clean energy partner,” said Liu Zigeng, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Lingxiao. “With SP Group’s global reputation and financial strength, we hope to tap on their expertise to drive efficiencies in energy and operations, and low-carbon, sustainable development.”

“As a diversified sustainable energy services provider, SP Group is committed to sharing its cutting-edge technology and regional expertise to deliver high quality green energy solutions, reliable operation and high-performance assets to our customers in China,” said Michael Zhong, Managing Director of SP Group China. “This  successful collaboration with Guangdong Linxiao marks our first BIPV project in China, and is a showcase of our expanding capabilities to help China’s industrial and commercial sectors accelerate towards a net-zero future.”

SP Group offers a comprehensive suite of sustainable energy solutions including district cooling and heating, renewable energy and energy storage, as well as digital energy management to support China’s net-zero ambitions. Our projects have taken root across 13 provinces and municipalities in China, primarily focused on the Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.
