Singapore, 5 November 2025 — The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) has appointed SP Group (SP) to implement advanced electricity and water meters in all defence facilities across the island. Under the agreement, SP will install, operate and maintain smart electricity and water meters.
“The deployment of these smart meters marks a significant stride in harnessing technology to optimise resource efficiency. It will enhance how electricity and water usage are measured and managed. This initiative reflects our commitment to building a smarter and more sustainable environment,” said DSTA’s Chief Executive, Mr Ng Chad-Son.
“Our collaboration with DSTA to integrate green energy technology at all defence facilities island-wide is a key enabler of sustainable practices in critical service infrastructure. It catalyses a broader transformation of energy and resource management in Singapore’s public sector. With advanced metering and analytics, we adopt a data-driven approach to improve operational and energy efficiency. This partnership is pivotal in building smart and resilient ecosystems, and driving our energy transition to meet national climate goals,” said Mr Stanley Huang, Group Chief Executive Officer, SP Group.

The partnership will see Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters installed in various Singapore Armed Forces’ camps and facilities. Each device will transmit data to the Smart Utilities Management System (SUMS), offering transparency and accountability in resource management. The data collected can be analysed to gain insights into utilities usage, track usage patterns, send alerts when irregular patterns such as potential leaks or excessive consumption are detected. DSTA also worked with SP Group to develop analytics and tailored features, enabling more meaningful insights and data-driven decision-making across camps and facilities. These insights allow conservation measures to be targeted at high-consumption clusters to reduce environmental impact or tackle potential wastage.
SUMS is part of SP’s suite of smart green building solutions that enables industrial and commercial buildings to advance their sustainability goals.
The efforts underscore the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to address environment challenges and advance long-term sustainability goals.
